Meal Pattern Training Resources

Meal Pattern Training Resources provides an overview of the Meal Pattern requirements for a reimbursable lunch and breakfast meal.  The training includes an overview of the USDA Offer Versus Serve Guidance for the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program.  Please review the USDA FNS policy memos and check with your State agency for specific requirements applicable to your program. The training includes an Instructor's Manual, Participant's Workbook, and PowerPoint presentation.

On May 22, 2017 a new policy memo, School Meal Flexibilities for School Year 2017-2018 (SP 32-2017) was released regarding  menu planning flexibility (grains, milk, sodium).   If any  ICN training resources contains specific  school meal pattern information ,  please include this  paragraph when the materials are revised:

On May 1, 2017, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue issued a Proclamation announcing several menu planning flexibilities that underscore USDA's commitment to assisting schools in serving healthy and appealing school meals. In his Proclamation, Secretary Perdue specifically directed the Food and Nutrition Service, to begin the process to amend the regulations for the school meal programs with respect to sodium, whole grains, and flavored milk.  For additional information please visit:
