NFSMI Supports HUSSC Success
Date Posted: 2/10/2012

As First Lady Michelle Obama's Let’s Move! campaign to raise a healthier generation of kids celebrates its second anniversary, the HealthierUS School Challenge has played a role in helping schools meet these goals.  In February 2010, USDA and the First Lady called on stakeholders to double the number of Challenge schools - a milestone reached in June 2011 – and add 1,000 schools per year for two years after that.

On February 10, 2012, the First Lady announced that 2,862 schools have now met the HealthierUS School Challenge, surpassing the goals of this key component of her Let's Move! initiative.

The HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) recognizes those schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that create healthier school environments by providing nutrition education, nutritious food and beverage choices, and opportunities for physical activity.  Read more and find out how your school can participate here: http://teamnutrition.usda.gov/healthierUS/index.html.

The National Food Service Management Institute offers HUSSC training for school districts through their state agencies.  Contact NFSMI's training team to arrange training in your state.
